Elmer Lovan, Jr.

U.S. Veteran

Elmer Lovan, Jr., 92, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City. He was born November 11, 1919, in Sesser, Illinois, a son of the late Elmer and Katherine (Downey) Lovan. He attended school in Steelville, Missouri. On April 26, 1943, Elmer was united in marriage in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jewell Roberson, who preceded him in death on January 6, 2005.

Elmer was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard starting in 1939, and retired as a Lieutenant in 1971. He also worked for Westinghouse as a machine operator from 1972 – 1982. Elmer attended Steedman Methodist Church, and was a member of the VFW Post #35, the Warrant Officer’s Association in the United States Coast Guard, and was a life member of Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans of the United States Coast Guard.

He is survived by a son: John Elmer Lovan (wife Patsy) of Rocky Mount, Missouri; two daughters: Judith Anita Kemp (husband Bruce) of Fenelton, Pennsylvania; Pamela Cecile Norris of Mokane, Missouri; one sister: Alice Tourville of St. Louis, Missouri; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene Lovan and Max Lovan; and four sisters: Mary Lovan, Helen Evans, Elizabeth Marten and Donna Souder.

Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Sapp officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
